INTO Mini Sevens :It has been a very exciting week gone by for Caherelly school. The Previous week the girls and boys of Caherelly qualified for the East Finals in Doon.  The boys played two games losing to a very strong Doon team in their first game & then narrowly losing to Killinure in their second games.  The girls hit the ground running and played four games in total where in earlier rounds they defeated Knockea, Lisnagry, & Crecora. In the final and deciding game they defeated Tineteriffe by 3 goals to one to win the East mini sevens for the first time.   There was great excitement within the group and school with this initial success. They then qualified for the county finals which were played two days later in Rathkeale where they winners of the West Raheenagh from Killeady, South – Bruree & the City Patrickswell were taking part. As this was only the second year the school was taking part in camogie expectations were modest & realistic. The girls were initially a little nervous and in the first game they played Raheenagh in what was a closely fought game. We got a goal early against the wind  to give us a good start but Raheenagh responded with three goods points. In the second half playing with the breeze we scored the decisive goal at the end to win the  game. In round two we met Bruree where we made a strong start against the breeze scoring 3 goals.  Bruree did fight back to score a goal & in the second half we scored another goal to win the game .  We were now down to meet Patrickswell in the final. They too had won their two earlier games too. In the first half we played against the wind  and scored a good goal to go in at half time a goal up. In the second half the girls continued to play really well scoring a further goal and a point. They played their best camogie in the final & great excitement ensued at the final whistle. They were presented with the county Shield by Brother Dormer. Well done to all the girls on their fantastic performances. Further excitement was to follow when the girls arrived back at the school in great timing for 3 o clock. They received a hero’s welcome with all the pupils holding a guard of honour for them on their return & with the senior boys doing it with their hurley’s crossed overhead . Well done also to Manager Mrs McGuiness & Principal Mrs Allen and all the staff for organising this  warm welcome.  A special thanks has to go to Mrs McGuiness for starting Camogie in the school and promoting it in every way possible with media updates as well.  Full Panel of girls for this historic success. Leah Whooley, Leah Tierney, Amy o Brien, Vivenne Hannon, Orla Ryan, Beatrice Cahill, Alannah Culhane, Grace Hennessey, Isabell Tierney and Lucia Cosgrave.
