U21 Hurlers book place in County Semi-fibal following narrow victory over Cois Le Gaels

16/Mar/2015

U21 Hurlers (13 a side) winning form continued on Sun last March 15th with a narrow victory over Cois Le Gaels (CLG) in Caherelly and booked a place in the county semi-final. This was an even contest with both sides exchanging scores from the onset. Conor Garvey registered Bally’s first point of the half but CLG responded quickly . Bally then pulled ahead with a well finished goal and point from Conor McCarthy and a point from Richard Coughlan. However CLG then responded and went in at half time with a 2 point lead despite Conor McCarthy converting 2 late points for Bally.

Bally started the second half stronger with points from Conor McCarthy drawing the sides level, but with Bally reduced to 12 players after 10 mins they had to dig deep to stay in the game. A well-executed goal from Conal Ryan  gave Bally a short lived lead as CLG again responded with 3 points to bring the sides level once again. Bally’s backs and midfield worked tirelessly to keep a steady flow of ball to the forwards and Bally pulled ahead again with another goal and point from Conal Ryan and points from Conor McCarthy and Adrian Lennon. Needless to say CLG fought back and came within a single point just before the final whistle blew and credit to our back for clearing the lines on a number of occasions as the game came to a close. Final Score 3-10 to 2-12 in Bally favor. Panel: Shane O'Neill, Alan O'Riordan, David Ryan, Colm Nicholl, John Stack, Gearoid Mitchell, Daniel McGuire, Matt Mitchell, Conor Garvey(0-1), Richard Coughlan(0-1), Conor McCarthy (1-4), Conal Ryan(2-1), Adrian Lennon(0-1), Jack Owens, Jamie O Donoghue, Dylan Conway.

Congratulations to James Ryan, Rochestown, who was the manager of the Middle East Ladies GAA County Team that won the inaugural GAA Ladies World Cup in Abu Dhabi on March 7th. The Middle East Ladies Team overcame a very strong Australia/New Zealand Ladies Team in the final by two points.
