Junior B footballers played St Patrick’s in the
County Championship semi-final on Mon last Oct 27th in Claughan. St.
Pat’s opted to play against the strong breeze in the first half and from the
onset Bally took full advantage of the elements, John Casey registered Bally’s
first point followed by well taken points from Denis Stack (0-1) and Michael
Wilkinson from play (0-1) and free’s (0-2). Our backs defended superbly and a
couple of excellent moves out of defense resulted in well finished points from
Sean Browne (0-1) and Eoin Lyons (0-1). Darragh Martin and William Hanley
worked tiredlessly around the middle of the field keeping a steady flow of ball
to the forwards and Bally finished the half strong with excellent points from
Paul Martin (0-2) and John Casey striking the net and leaving his tally at 1-2
for the half. Bally had built up a strong 1-10 to 0-0 lead at half time but
facing the elements in the second half knew St Pat’s would take advantage. Our
defense were under pressure for prolonged periods in the second half but
defended well with Joe Teefy leading by example and Kieran McCarthy keeping a clean
sheet in goals. Both sides exchanged points in the second half and St’ Pats
converting 0-6 to Bally’s 0-3 points which were converted by Denis Stack (0-1),
John Stack (0-1) and Kevin Ryan (0-1). Final score 1-13 to 0-6 and an excellent
team performance rewarded with a place in the County final against
