U14 Hurlers (Naomh Brid) have qualified for the
county final after victory over Granagh/Ballingarry on a 7-6 to 2-6 scoreline
on Saturday evening last in Rathkeale . We started brightly scoring 1-1 without
reply but Granagh responded well and both sides exchanged scores, however Naomh
Brid were leading 3-2 to 0-5 as half time approached and 2 quick successive
goals before and after half time got Granagh/Ballingarry back into it drawing
the teams level. After a couple of positional changes the game turned and Naomh
Brid started to pull away with two quick goals and number of points. Granagh
/Ballingarry were then held to scoring one additional point in the half and
Naomh Brid dominated the half helped by some very effective substitutes. In the
end the lads came away with a well-deserved win and booked their place in the
county final against Garryspillane. It is a great achievement by this great
young bunch of lads and hardworking management.
Junior B footballers played Fedamore in the East
Championship final on Saturday eve last in Kilteely. Having already lost to the
county League champions earlier in the year Bally knew this was going to be a
tough contest. Fedamore got off to the better start and had 4 points on the
board before Conal Ryan registered Bally’s first point. Bally contested well
and were getting into the game when Fedamore scored a goal somewhat against the
run of play. Bally then responded with points from Denis Stack and Paul Martin
leaving the half time scoreline 1-4 to 0-3 in Fedamore’s favor. Bally continued
to work hard in the second half but perhaps unlucky not to have converted a
number of chances while Fedamore kept the scoreboard ticking over with 4 more
points before Denis Stack and Conal Ryan responded with 2 well executed points.
These scores were then followed with a well finished goal from Michael
Wilkinson and that narrowed the margin to 5 points. However it became clear it
was not going to be Bally’s night after we failed to convert 2 penalties late
in the half. Fedamore then pulled away with a couple of late scores leaving the
final score 1-5 to 2-10 in favor of Fedamore’s favor. Team: Kieran
