Junior A Hurlers had a
busy week past, started when the played Ahane in the East Championship on Wed
eve last in Boher. Ahane were the better team on the night and came away with
the win, final score 0-10 to 1-16. Ballys scores came from Michael Wilkinson
(0-5), Conal Ryan(0-1), Larry Browne (0-2) and Dennis Stack (0-2). This outcome
determined that Bally would then meet Doon in the East championship semi-final
which was played on Sunday eve last in Caherconlish. Bally put in a strong
first half team performance with the breeze advantage and build up a 4 point
lead by half time through scores from Michael Wilkinson (0-3), Enda Frawley
(0,2), Daniel McGuire and a well worked goal from Larry Browne (1-0)
towards the end of the half. The half time score was 1-6 to 0-5 in Bally’s
favor. Doon however took control at the start of the second half and registered
4 points to bring the sides level mid-way through the half. Bally dug deep and
were rewarded through a point from Enda Frawley but otherwise found it
difficult to get other scoring opportunities on target perhaps not helped by
the conditions on the night. Doon however continued to take their opportunities
and converted another 0-4 points and went away with the win and a place in the
East final with a 2 point winning margin. Final score was 1-7 to 0-12 in Doon’s
favor. Team: Kieran McCarthy, Matt Mitchell, Joe Teefy, Sean Browne, Paul
Martin, Eoin Lyons, Mark O’ Dea, Dennis Stack, Michael Wilkinson, Liam
O’Rourke, Larry Browne, Daniel McGuire, Enda Frawley, Damien Browne, Conor
Grene, Barry Laffin, Hughie Leonard, Colm Nicholl, John Casey. That finishes
the season for our Junior A Hurlers and the club would like to thanks the
players and management for their commitment and support throughout the year.
U14 Footballers (Naomh Brid): Well done to our U14
footballers on winning the county final when they overcame Kildimo Pallaskenry
on Friday eve last in Knockea. Final score was 1-8 to 0-9. Well done to all the
players and management on an excellent performance.
Minor Footballers: Well done to our minor
footballers (13 a side) on their excellent win over Mountcollins on Friday eve
last in Caherelly. Bally played against the wind in the first half and had an
early setback when Mountcollins scored a goal in the first play of the match.
Bally worked hard and were rewarded with David Tynan scoring Ballys first point
followed by a well struck goal from Conal Ryan. Mountcollins then converted 3
points before Conal Ryan got the last point of the half leaving the half time
scoreline 1-3 to 1-2 in favor of Mountcollins. Bally started the 2nd
half well with David Tynan scoring the first 2 points of the half followed by a
goal from Conal Ryan. This was followed by 2 well struck points from Conor
Garvey. Mountcollins however made a late surge and put our backline under
significant pressure and despite several attempt we managed to clear our lines
on numerous occasions through excellent keeping by Owen Kennedy and brilliant
defensive play by Alan O’Riordan, Colm Nicholl and Jack Owens. Gearoid Mitchell
and Christopher Coughlan worked tiredlessly in the middle of the field to win
that battle. In the end Bally came away with a deserved win and excellent team
performance. Final score 2-6 to 1-5. Team: Owen Kennedy, Jack Owens, Alan
O’ Riordan, Adrian Lennon, Colm Nicholl, Colm Power, Gearoid Mitchell,
