U21 Hurlers single point defeat in West Limerick

11/Mar/2014

U21 Hurlers  traveled to West Limerick again last weekend, this time to play Killeedy in Tournafulla in the 3rd match of the 13-a-side competition. Playing conditions were much improved and the lads stepped it up another notch putting in another solid and committed performance. Killeedy got off to the better start converting 2 points from play but Bally responded with well taken points from Adrian Lennon and Daniel McGuire. We were unfortunate to lose John O’Dea through injury after 10 minutes but David Tynan came up to speed quickly in the forwards. Shane O’Neill then denied Killeedy a goal with a superb reflex and off-the-line save but they continued to apply pressure and scored 2 further points before Bally’s continued hard work was rewarded with points from Daniel McGuire. Killeedy kept the scoreboard ticking over with 2 more points but our backs were excellent again this week and kept defending well and ensured the forwards received a steady flow of ball. The continued pressure resulted in John Casey striking the net with a breaking ball close to the end of the first half but Killeedy responded quickly with 2 more points and leaving the halftime scoreline 1-4 to 0-8 in Killeedy’s favor. Bally’s 2nd half got off to a great start with  a well struck point but again Killeedy responded with 3 points from play before John Casey and John Stack converted 2 frees for Bally. Despite been reduced to 12 players mid-way through the half Bally continued to keep the pressure on and both sides continued to exchange points with Daniel McGuire and Richard Coughlan converting for Bally. Despite the best efforts of this young team the 2nd half ended like the first with a single point margin between the sides in Kileedy’s favor, final score was 1-9 to 0-13. Panel: Shane O'Neill, Alan O' Riordan, Kevin Blackwell, Colm Nicholl, John Stack, David Ryan, Daniel McGuire, Matt Mitchell, Richard Coughlan, John O’Dea, John Casey, Adrian Lennon, David Tynan, Jamie O’ Donoghue
