Club News Week Commencing June 18th

Our U14 Hurlers play in the County League Final this Friday the 22nd against Cois Le Gaels in Mick Neville Park, Rathkeale at 7.00pm and  all support on the night is welcome.

Our U14 Footballer played Bruff on Wednesday evening last in Caherelly. Lacking some of our key players we had to field a very young side and also lost Eoin Klosse to injury only a few minutes into the game. Despite these setbacks our your lads played with great intensity, skill and teamwork to give us a one point lead at half time 1-3 to 1-2.  Unfortunately conceding 4 goals early in the second half almost put the game out of our reach, but again the lads never gave up and fought back hard to narrow the margin to 5 points in the end. Final score 5-4 to 3-5 in favour of Bruff.  Panel for the games was: Cillian McCarthy, Liam Nicholl, Jamie Doran, James Garvey, Jack Owens, Eoin Klosse, Lewis Rogers, Adam McCarthy, James Pinder, Jason Cross, Sean Teefy, Eoghan O Neill, Dylan Conway, Conor Garvey,  Niall Mitchell, Daniel Owens, James Garvey, Jack Cross.

U12 Hurling and Football leagues has now recommenced and we face a busy schedule with 5 matches in each code over the next 10 weeks an at the end of this phase we will be playing the finals day at the Gaelic grounds.  We could not have asked for a better start  with 2 convincing wins. On Tuesday last we faced Ahane at Caherelly to open the hurling campaign. Ahane got off to a flyer and scored a goal and a point in the first 5 minutes. However with Niall Mitchell and Jack Cross leading by example we soon settled into the game and with some lovely scores we went in at half time leading by 5 points. Bally upped the tempo in the second half and with a great all round team performance we ran out convincing winners at the end of the 40 minutes. On Thursday night our attention turned to football and we hosted Cappamore at a wet and windy Caherelly . Cappamore had narrowly beaten us earlier in the season in hurling and we were on a revenge mission here . From the throw in Bally showed that they were well up for this one and Matthew Pender hit the net with a sweetly taken goal in the first minute. Cappamore had a strong physical team and ensured that we had to work hard for our scores. Under the conditions we played a lovely brand of football and picked off some lovely scores , helped by great work from our defence and mid field who provided a constant supply of quality ball to our forwards. We ended up winning on a score line of 5-3 to 0-3 .Highlights included a double for Darragh Hogan and an outstanding point from Aidan Walker. Team : James Garvey, Niall Mitchell, Ryan Hickey, Daniel Owens, Cillian O’Brien, Jack Cross, Darragh Hogan, Matthew Pender, Patrick  Byrnes, Cathal Breen, Michael Martin, Colm O’Riordan, Aidan Walker, Scott McEvoy. Training continues every Tuesday at 6.30pm.

Well done to St Ailbe’s U14’s and local girls Kate Ryan, Ciara Ryan, Dara McDermott, Katie O’ Riordan and Aoife Connolly on winning the County B Final over Drom broadford and also winning the A Semi Final against Adare last Friday evening.
