Club News Week commencing May 14th

Our Intermediate Hurlers played Monaleen in the first round of the Intermediate Hurling championship on Sunday last May13th in Cappamore.  It was a sunny but blustery afternoon in Cappamore and Bally started with the benefit of the breeze. Monaleen got the first score of the match but Bally quickly responded with a  well taken free from Enda Frawley. Both sides exchanged points in the early stages and a Monaleen goal about 10 minutes shifted the momentum to their advantage. Bally battled hard and perhaps unlucky not to have found the net before the interval. Four more well taken points from Enda Frawley and a point from play from Darragh Lyons left the scoreline 1-6 to 0-6 in Monaleens favor at the interval. Monaleen with the element in the favour rallied in the early part of the second half with 4 unanswered points before Enda Frawlay converted what was Bally’s last point of the match. The sending off of Stephen Frawley midway into the half and James Frawley deep into the second half removed the possibility of a late recovery and in the end Monaleen came away comfortable winners. Final score 1-14 to 0-7. Team: Team: Pat McElligott, Sean Browne, John McElligott, Eoin Lyons, Paul Martin, Stephen Frawley, Kevin Ryan, James Frawley, Mark McGuire, Darragh Lyons, Mark O’Dea, Darragh Martin, Joe Teefy, Liam McElligott , Enda Frawley.

U16 footballers (Naomh Brid) met Hospital/Herbertstown on Monday May 7th in in Kilteely. We faced the elements in the first half and despite a below par performance and not converting a number of opportunites we managed to go into the interval with a 1 point lead.. Again we started slow in the second half and did not take advantage of the elements. Both sides exchanged scores and it was not till mid way through the second half we started to pull away and secured the win with well take scores from Connal Ryan, James O Regan and Conor McCarthy. Final score 3-7 to 3-3.

U14 Hurlers match v Na Piarsaigh B in the Div 3 Hurling league last week did not go ahead due to  Na Piarsaigh pulling out of the league.

Our U12s have got their season off to a very satisfactory start in recent weeks. On Thursday May 3rd we played our first football match of the year had a very exciting win over near neighbours South Liberties with a goal in the last minute to give us a 2 point victory. There were great performances by Niall Mitchell and Daniel Owens in mid field and by Jack Cross and Darragh Hogan in the forwards. Having drawn with Murroe Boher in our opening hurling  match we played Cappamore last Thursday night in Caherelly and in terrible conditions came out on the wrong side of a 4-4 to 3-1 defeat. There was some great work in defence led by our goalie Cillian O’Brien and full back Cathal Breen. We wish Jack Cross a speedy recovery after picking up a nasty hand injury in the second half.  We play St Patricks this Thursday May 17th in Caherelly and host Na Piarsaigh the following week again in Caherelly. Throw in time for both matches is 7.45 . U12 training takes place every Tuesday at 6 pm and new team members are always welcome.

Fixtures: Junior B Hurlers play Murroe Boher on Tuesday May 15th in Murroe at 7.15pm. U12 footballers play St. Patricks in Caherelly on Thursday May 17th in Caherelly at 6.45pm.
