Club News and fixtures week commencing April 23rd

Intermediate Hurlers were scheduled to play Cappamore in the Championship last week but did not go ahead as Cappamore conceded the game.

Junior A Football got under way on Friday April 13th against Pallasgreen.  It resulted in a loss for Ballybricken after a tight game. The absence of a recognized free taker was the difference especially near the end of the game. The game ended Ballybricken 1-6, Pallasgreen 1-8. On Friday 20th April our Junior A footballers took on Kilteely and started brightly, but Kilteelys greater experience and fitness swung the day for them and it ended on a scoreline of Kilteely 4-3, Ballybricken 0-4. Unfortunately Danny Garry suffered a horrendous shoulder injury during that match and the club would like to wish him a speedy recovery.

U16 Hurlers (Naomh Brid) also played Shamrock Gaels on Monday April 16th in Athlacca. We dominated the first half in terms of possession but were unable to convert our opportunities to scores and ended up trailing 1-3 to 0-2 at half time. Shamrock Gaels continued to convert their opportunities in the second half and despite a late goal we lacked upfront fire power and ended loosing on a 1-3 to 1-12 score line.

U16 Footballers (Naomh Brid) played Ballylanders on Monday April 16th in poor conditions in Ballylanders. We started slow and conceded a couple of early goals and it was well into the first half before we picked up the pace. Conor McCarthy kept us in the game with a number of well taken frees and points from play. A well taken goal from Jamie McCarthy left the scoreline 3-4 to 1-5 at the interval. The whole team upped their performances in the second half and we started to pull ahead well into the half with all the forwards getting scores and leaving us 4 points up with 5 mins remaining. A late surge and from Ballylanders put them a point ahead with minutes remaining and then the last attack from Naomh Brid won us a free which was converted by Conor McCarty leaving the sides level at full time. Final score 5-8 to 5-8.

Upcoming fixtures:

Intermediate Hurlers play Blackrock on Wednesday April 25th in Blackrock at 7.0pm. Junior B Hurlers play Cappamore on Thursday night April 26th, time and venue TBD. U14 Hurlers play Cois Laoi Gaels in the County league on Wednesday 25th in Caherelly at 6.45pm and also play Templeglantine in the 2nd round away on Wednesday May 2nd at 6.45pm. Please note that U8, U10, U12, U14 & U16 fixtures for 2012 have been uploaded and can be viewed on the club website.

Condolences: On a sad note the club would like to extend our sincere sympathy to the families of the recently deceased Sophie Weekes and Mary Ramsbottom at this time.
